ABSTRACT FORMAT

Please ensure you use the format below to write your abstract 

Abstract Text: The abstract should be in the form of bolded structured headings (with blank line spaces between each section) as follows: 

  • Aims: Write your aims here. 
  • Methods: Write your methods here. 
  • Results: Write your results here. 
  • Conclusions and / or Clinical Practice Point: Write your conclusion here. 

    • References: References may be included either “inline” in the abstract text or in a list following the abstract. The style of the references should follow either the Harvard or APA method. 
    • Case Study: If you are submitting a case study, please use case, discussion, conclusion and/or clinical practice point 
The general specifications are: 
  • The maximum length of the abstract, including references, is 300 words. 
  • Abbreviations may be used but must be spelt out in full at the first mention followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. 
  • Do not include graphs, tables or images 
  • Do not include the abstract title or authors 

Please note there are limited spaces available in the programme for oral and poster presentations, and priority will be given to those submissions which describe an innovative approach as described. All abstracts will be reviewed by the committee for inclusion in the oral and poster presentations at the conference.

  • To submit an abstract please ensure you follow the above format
  • Free type your abstract into the text box (300 word limit) 
  • Things to have ready prior to uploading an abstract.
    Each will be used for conference printed and online collateral should you be accepted to present at the conference.
    • Photo of presenting author in JPEG format
    • Professional Biography for the presenting author (100 word limit) 

  • Prior to uploading an abstract you will be asked to select which of the below you wish to submit for:- 
    • 1. Oral Presentation 
    • 2. Poster Presentation 
    • 3. Oral or Poster Presentation
    • 4. Oral Presentation for Trainee Day Workshop or Trainee Breakfast Session (breakfast session in-person only
    • 5. I would like to submit my research in consideration of an award
          Please note : To be considered for an award you must be a IMSANZ member or intend on becoming a member.
INTERNAL MEDICINE JOURNAL (IMJ) ONLINE SUPPLEMENT | Top 20 Abstracts 
IMSANZ has partnered with the Internal Medicine Journal (IMJ) and would like to publish our Top 20 accepted conference abstracts submissions, we ask your permission to permit this to be published in their September online supplement edition. Prior to uploading your abstract you will be asked the following questions with regards this:-

  • YES I agree to have my abstract included in the IMJ Supplement
  • NO I do not agree to have my abstract included in the IMJ Supplement
  • I confirm that my abstract has NOT been published elsewhere previously
  • I confirm I have permission of all authors to publish the abstract in the IMJ
